COURSE DESCRIPITION AND OBJECTIVES

Lego NXT/EV3, Arduino, Makeblock, and VEX EDR are kits designed to help you learn about STEM. They are tools to help you understand crucial problem-solving concepts.

 

DAILY MATERIALS  

- Pencil, paper, eraser, pens

- Your best effort and good attitude

 

GRADING

100% - 83%   =          A

 82% - 68%    =          B

 67% - 50%    =          C

 49% - 38%    =          D

 37% - 0%      =          F

 

CELLPHONE AND COMPUTER USE POLICY

Cellphones are allowed at certain times during class WHEN THE TEACHER TELLS YOU!

 

In general, if you need to contact your parents for things like pick up or family emergencies during class time please ask for permission before using your phone.

 

Otherwise if you are off task on the phone

1st time= warning

2nd time= teacher will ask for phone to be kept until end of class

Further arguments or asking for phone will result in phone being held until after school or until parent pick up as determined by the teacher

 

CHEATING & PLAGARISM

1st time= 0 on a test or assignment & phone call phone

2nd time= above & detention

3rd time= above & parent conference

 

GRADE BREAKDOWN

Participation: 8 points per week

Active participation is required daily.

 

Canvas: 8 points per week

One Canvas assignment per week. Most involve reading a short article and summarizing with at least seven sentences.

 

Assignments & Quizzes:

Each unit will have several assignments and a quiz.

 

Final Exam:

Cumulative Final is based on unit quizzes.

 

If you are absent, it is your responsibility, as a young adult, to find out what you missed and make up for all of it according the number of days you were absent.

 

CLASSROOM EXPECTATOINS AND NORMS 

Students will follow the Code of Conduct and dress code outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook:

  1. You are lined up along the wall before the bell rings.
  2. You and your partner(s) will only touch your robot and will be responsible for getting it and cleaning up everything before you leave.
  3. You have all of your materials you need in class each day.
  4. You treat everyone within the classroom, both adults and students, with respect.
  5. You give your best effort in completing assignments and you make up any assignments you may have missed as soon as you return to school and allowed the exact amount of days you were missing
  6. You do not eat, chew gum, or drink (except water) in class.
  7. You will follow the norms established in the classroom.

 

GENERAL CONSQUENCES

1st time= Warning                                                          2nd time=Warning

3rd time = 1 on 1 talk when appropriate                   4th time= phone call home

5th time = Sent out                                        

ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON TEACHER ASSESSMENT AND/OR DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS.
